My PAPA taught me how to sail at age 2 (or so my mom has told me...).  I do not remember NOT sailing. I raced dinghies (Comets, Sunfish, Thistles etc.) in grade school on the Finger Lakes of Upstate NY and competed Internationally before graduating from High School.

I was very fortunate to be selected to attend the US Naval Academy (Mom sent in the application when she found out it was free...) and competed on their Sailing Team.  I got the chance to skipper 420's, FJ's, Lasers, Shields, J-24's. and 44' Ludder Yawls, as well as race on a Swan 48, S&S 54 and even an 85 foot Schooner to Bermuda. While at USNA, we were the NCAA National Champion all 4 years I was there.  It was an incredible experience to be around such sailing talent.

As a Navy Pilot, I lived on Whidbey Island from 1985-1990 and began to fall in love with the Great Northwest.  The Navy took me around the world (twice on those Big Grey Boats - not really sailing...) and along the way I had the chance to sail in MUCH smaller boats in such places as Perth Australia, Antalya Turkey, Haifa Israel, Palma Spain, Pearl Harbor, Bremenhaven Germany, Tangiers Morocco, Subic Bay, and Singapore.  Flying the EA-6B off the deck of aircraft carriers was a thrill, but I always loved to come home to Whidbey for some local clams and dungeness crabs.  In 1989, I returned to USNA and worked as an assistant coach on the sailing team for a season.

I have been a Delta Air Lines Pilot since 1990 and have been flying as Captain on the MD-90.  I live in Park City, Utah (the skiing is not too bad there...)  and have taught as a PSIA Level 3 Certified ski and snowboard instructor for 15 years.  I have been fortunate to also have coached several of the local race teams there including the PCDST. My passion and love for the water and sailing has brought me back to Seattle, and I am enjoying teaching at WINDWORKS.  Introducing sailing (or skiing) to someone new to the sport is a blast, and I love to see the excitement on the faces as they make the perfect tack or find the best anchorage.

As a USCG Master 50 GRT, I can take you to my favorite crabbing spots in style anywhere along the west coast aboard my PAPA.  And as a US Sailing Certified Instructor, we can talk about the finer points of sailing and learn a skill that will change your life.  Or we can just go sailing with my PAPA...Come Sail With Me and PAPA Soon.
