LATEST NEWS 21 SEPTEMBER - SEMINAR SUCCESS in SEATTLE. This month Capt Dan was a seminar presenter for the BOATS AFLOAT SHOW in Lake Union, Seattle. Two shows were featured as the story of the trip up from South America was revelled. "The Ultimate Coastal Cruise - Venezuela to Seattle, 5888 NM in 88 Days". The pictures of the trip through the PANAMA CANAL were well received but the hightlight shots were of the SAN BLAS ISLANDS. The local faces were captivating as the Capt told the story of their time spent exploring these enchanted islands... If you missed the show do not worry. You can see the animated presentation this coming winter Jan 24 - Feb 2, 2008 at the SEATTLE BOAT SHOW 13 AUGUST - PAPA II Comes Back to SEATTLE. On July 6th, PAPA II was involved in a collision with a submerged rock off the North coast of Vancouver Island. With some of the strongest currents in the world recorded just 10 miles away and numerous uncharted rocks in the area – we feel fortunate that the crew is fine. The design and strength of the AMEL 53 showed through. PAPA II floated free of the scene and was able to motor away under her own power. A complete refit is now in progress at Seaview East boat yard in Seattle, WA. She will be fully repaired to an even stronger standard. Many of the items on the Captain’s dream list will also be installed this fall. Come 2008, PAPA II will be ready to sail around the world in style. WHAT's NEXT ??? Look for a full schedule for 2008. Test sails on the "new" boat will begin this winter in the Seattle area. Come spring we will head north again to explore the SUNSHINE COAST of British Columbia. Most of the summer will be spent in Southeast Alaska. Come September the fabeled West Coast of Vancouver Islands is on the list. October will mark departure for the warmer waters of Mexico. Don't fret, we will again check in with the Sea Lions of the Channel Islands in SoCal. The winter of 2009 will be spent at KITE School in La Ventana and WINDSURFING in the Sea of Cortez. STAY Tuned... 21 JULY - PAPA Celebrates "CANADA DAY" in Vancouver, British Columbia. The trip up from Seattle was picture perfect. Plenty of Killer Whales, Dahl's Porpoises, and fair currents under the Deception Pass Bridge. A stop in Oak Harbor allowed the captain and crew a chance to get the Full Tour of the NAVY's EA-6B Prowler, (Dan's Old Bird...) . The weather allowed plenty of Ballonner Flying the second day and a glassy crossing of the fabled "Georgia Strait". 23 JUNE - PAPA slips safely into SEATTLE. 5888 NM and 88 days since VENEZUELA!!! JOIN IN ON THE EXPERIENCE - 1830 WEDNESDAY the 27th - WINDWORKS SAILING CLUB - classroom - It's in the new Shilshole Marina office building - Ballard, WA . Just down from RAY's BOATHOUSE. Videos and slide Show with music and Presentation by Capt Dan - Some of the stories told will actually be true. Come hear about the trip through the Panama Canal, the battle with the gales and whales, and sailing almost 6000 miles in 3 months through 11 countries. Afterwards we will tour the PAPA II - now moored at "I" dock in the Shilshole Marina - and Christen her properly. What ever that means.... At least I know it will include some champagne and 4 cases of good Venezuelan Beer. It will be a fun event for sailors of all ages and experiences. See you on Wednesday. It has been a great trip. PAPA Sails with the "HEART OF SAILING". Last August Captain Dan and his PAPA I sailed with several special needs children on the Puget Sound. For many this was their first sailing experience.
